· Remember, August 2, 2012 at Johnny Oquigleys. This has been a very popular venue, and we are pleased to be going back again. See you there for the August meeting – first Thursday @ Oquigleys!

• · A big thank you to Chef Wayne Alexander of L J Schooners for hosting our July meeting. We had a good turnout, perfect weather, great food (I got some of the seared tuna) and we picked up a new member. Jim Goodart, owner of a red Porsche 944 says he wants to join our band of happy hooligans. We had a visitor from the world of BMW and Dr. Bulldog showed up in a very red Italian job. Paul Neal, RE of the Gulf Coast Region of the SCCA talked about the Tire Rack Street Survival course they were putting on at Keesler AFB in Biloxi. There will be a link to their newsletter on our website – Destincarclub.org – and hopefully the friends of Destin car club group on Facebook.
• · We’re on the back side of the year now, lots of great social events coming up. We are back in Niceville for the September meeting at Helga’s. This is a nice little German restaurant run by a loyal friend of DCC. So please join us there as well. October is the Car show, and Alabama tells me it is coming together nicely. The show will be at Grand Boulevard this year, so we should have a good turnout. I expect to have some SCCA racecars and perhaps some of the PAACC folks will show as well. The event will also include a drive; more on yhat from Alabama.
• · As for competition, the Gulf Coast Region, SCCA will be hosting an autocross at Sunny South Raceway on August 19; details on their website or see me at the meeting. The Wiregrass region will host their August Autocross on 12 August; see http://www.sccawiregrass.org/ for details. I have a new set of Kumhos that need scrubbing.

· DON’T FORGET THE AUGUST MEETING AT OQUIGLEY’S, THE FIRST THURSDAY COMES QUICKLY IN AUGUST. WE MAY BE NOMINATING THE NEXT YEARS PRESIDENT, SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE THERE OR COULD BE ELECTED UNANIMOUSLY.

Due to the Fourth of July Holiday, we postponed the normal July meeting one week to the 12th of July. Some folks will still be away – we probably won’t know if Russ’ 928 is still running – but hopefully most of you will be able to attend. I confirmed with Wayne Alexander that we can have the meeting at L J Schooners, which is located in Bluewater Bay Marina. It is a beautiful location, especially good sunset views. Of course Wayne is a super host and chef. Those who attended there last time really enjoyed it and it should be even better this time.

Most of the DCC Racing Team wimped out on the last SCCA Wiregrass Region Autocross, due to the tropical downpour. However, Bob Langham was there and took first in class in his rapid Cayman. Must have had his rain tires on!

We’ll talk some more at the meeting about AX, SCCA cosponsoring events, upcoming Races such as Petite Lemons and Daytona, as well as a recap of the October Charity Car Show at Grand Boulevard.

So don’t forget to be there at L J Schooners @ Bluewater Bay Marina on 12 July, starting at 6:00 PM. See you there.

PS: The meeting was a success. Steve and Heath are super hosts and Bulldog himself was there, too. Lots of nice cars, Kevin displayed his products, Rick Jones introduced his business right across the street rebuilding injectors, etc. More indepth coverage later.

March has been a busy month with spring stuff, so car news is thin.

• The March meeting was held for the first time at L J Schooners restaurant and Oyster Bar in the Bluewater Bay Marina. Our gracious host and new DCC member – Chef Wayne Alexander provided a nice outdoor setting for our meeting and we had a fine repast inside at the Oyster Bar. We got lots of positive reaction to this venue, so look for a return soon.
• The subject of the meeting was participation in driving events, especially the 12 March autocross at the helicopter field north of Dothan. In the end, your president and Bob Langham were the only ones able to make the trip. However, Bob was on the injured/disabled list and couldn’t compete. So even though I finished the day with much less rubber on my tires and egg on my face for getting lost on the course, I had a great time finding the limits of adhesion and the rev limiter on the old Porsche. We each got four runs in the morning and four after the lunch break; still finishing by 2:30 or so. Just in time for a pleasant drive home with occasional showers north of I-10. • Our next meeting will be April 5 at Porsche of Destin on Airport Boulevard. Allen Moyes will introduce the staff and Michael will do a short tech session. There will be time to ask questions and perhaps even make some deals. Allen does have a lead on a Guards Red 993 Targa that would show nicely at our Club events. Refreshments will be served.
• The May Meeting will be at Johnny O’Quigglies and in June we return to Clemenza’s in Uptown Square. The rest of the schedule may get juggled.
• We need to plan dates for a trip to Red Bay; The Naval Museum in Pensacola; and a visit to Dave Smith’s place in Panama City. Alan will be at Barber for the Porsche 200 and I will be attending the SCCA autocrosses at Dothan and Robertsdale.
• Looking forward to seeing a big crowd at the newest Porsche dealership in the Panhandle April fifth!
